Interview with Prof. Janik Wolters, TU Berlin, AQLS (Winner BQ Pioneer Mentors' Choice Award 2024)

What is the vision you are pursuing with your startup?

We provide quantum light sources, a key enabling technology for quantum computers and other quantum technologies. Our vision is to become a key supplier of this technology to the global quantum economy, to be one of those hidden champions providing the enabling technology for all the world's photonic quantum computers -  Made in Berlin.

What are taking home from the BERLIN QUANTUM Pioneer Week?

I think the most memorable discussions I had were with the mentors and we learned a lot about how to scale our production, how to scale our marketing, how to form strategic partnerships with others to enter the market more efficiently.

Why is Berlin interesting for you?

Berlin is knorke [local for great], but that's not the main point. I mean, you cannot build a business on that. But what you can build a business on is a strong ecosystem that already exists, so our customers are here, our key development partners are here. The universities have a great output of well-trained people that are available to our company. And the funding from the state of Berlin is also very supportive in this early stage of our start-up.
