Berlin's / Germany's / Europe's role in the 'second quantum revolution

The UN declared 2025 as 'The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology,' aiming 'to use the occasion of 100 years of quantum mechanics to help raise public awareness of the importance and impact of quantum science and applications on all aspects of life.' - Precisely what we will do!

Podium Discussion - Manouchehr ShamsriziPeter KrügerMarkus Krutzik

Manouchehr Shamsrizi has been described as "one of the most publicly prominent voices of Germany’s younger generation" (Washington Post) and "well positioned to assess emerging trends" (Monocle Magazine). A former Global Justice Fellow at Yale and Ariane de Rothschild Fellow at Cambridge, he now co-directs leap.berlin, the capital’s hub for quantum technologies within Berlin Quantum.

Peter studied Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Philosophy in Berlin, Innsbruck, Heidelberg and Paris. He became an expert on fundamental quantum physics through his research on quantum gases working with a number of prominent scientists including Nobel laureates. He was appointed full professor in 2007 at Nottingham and today heads the Department on quantum sensing at PTB.

Markus Krutzik is head of the Joint Lab Integrated Quantum Sensors at the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, which is run in cooperation with the Humboldt University Berlin. The research work is focussed on integrated atom-based measurement technology for use in metrology, sensor technology and information processing. The systems are developed for use outside of laboratory environments, in particular for use in space. Since 2024, he has been co-founder of a QT start-up and scientific advisor to the Quantum Hub Leap.
